Our Materials
At #TOGETHERBAND, our approach has always been to fuse innovative and sustainable materials, artisanal production, and technical innovation to have positive impact on the people and the planet.
#TOGETHERBAND Materials
With end to end positive impact, #TOGETHER represents these ideals and each product embodies the spirit of the Global Goals. The materials protect our planet’s resources and support NGOs that further the advancement of the Global Goals.
We’re proud of the sustainable and ethical journey your product has undertaken to reach you, which is why it’s so important for us to tell the story of how each one is made.
Parley Ocean Plastic®
Plastic pollution is reaching a critical point, with an estimated 11 million tonnes entering our oceans every year. Your #TOGETHERBAND is a part of solving this global issue.
Every #TOGETHERBAND rope is made from 100% Parley Ocean Plastic® – created from upcycled plastic waste intercepted by Parley from remote islands, shorelines, waters and in coastal communities, preventing it from polluting our oceans. Products made from Ocean Plastic® become symbols of change, raise awareness and fund the fight against marine plastic pollution.
Açaí Seeds
Indigenous communities, their knowledge and protection of the natural world is critical in our fight against climate change. The Amazônia collection are bracelets and necklaces made from açaí seeds by the Yawanawá, an Indigenous community who live in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
The Yawanawá harvest the açaí fruit from the trees they look after, drink the juice, and then clean, dry and dye the seeds. The zero-waste product supports Indigenous craft and skills, and helps to preserve the Amazon Rainforest.
Humanium Metal Clasp
There are hundreds of millions of illegal firearms in the world. As a result, someone is shot every minute, making small arms ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ Humanium Metal is an upcycled stainless steel repurposed from destructed illegal firearms, which are seized by local authorities in Central America. The firearms are melted down and transformed back to raw stainless steel material by IM Sweden Development Partner in Sweden. Your clasp is made from the resulting Humanium Metal moulded into the shape of the signature upcycled ring pulls BOTTLETOP uses in the creation of our products. This gives the steel a new positive life as your #TOGETHERBAND clasp whilst helping to put an end to armed violence and creating new sources of funding for victims and projects aiming to rebuild conflict-torn societies.
Spacecraft Honeycomb
With the amount of space debris on the rise, and the negative effects of industrial materials, processes and technologies on the environment, it’s vital that we foster new innovative solutions to reduce space waste.
Honeycomb core is a lightweight, resilient material in which large numbers of hexagon-shaped cells are assembled into a “honeycomb” structure. The panels are often used in Spacecraft secondary satellite structures such as equipment platforms and solar arrays, and now, we're thrilled to include a metal clasp made from Spacecraft Honeycomb waste offcuts from the creation of satellites and other Spacecraft in our special edition Discover the Cosmos #TOGETHERBAND.
Recycled Cotton
Every piece of #TOGETHERWEAR is made from 100% recycled materials. Our super-soft blend is made from 60% recycled organic cotton which we collect from the textile industry - it would have ended up as a waste product if we didn’t use it. The other 40% is made from recycled plastic bottles which are collected locally to our production facility in India. Our products are certified under the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) and Organic Content Standard (OCS).
Recycled Polycarbonate
Our sunglasses frames are constructed using 100% recycled polycarbonate – a strong material made from post-consumer waste like old CDs and electrical appliances. Moreover, we use Category 3 Lenses which means they provide good UV protection and a high level of sun glare reduction. #TOGETHER sunnies are also carbon negative, which means they offset more carbon than is emitted through their creation and distribution.
This product can expose you to chemicals including Bisphenol A (BPA), which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. All recycled hard-plastic products may contain BPA. Find out more here.
